Test Piece Simulator WP-632TPS Print E-mail

For certain types of non destructive testing (NDT), particularly of composites and metal adhesive bonded structures, the test equipment has to be calibrated and set to standards in order to detect integrity or for quality control. This electronic innovation eliminates the high cost of manufacturing calibration pieces representing the structure and the effort to achieve very close tolerances.

The tap or impedance test equipment for which this simulator was designed measures the vibration of the surface i.e. the contact time. Thus there is a correlation between this and the stiffness of the material. This in conjunction with the TPS can therefore compare mechanical properties against NDT response measured time.

The TPS can be adjusted over a whole range of structural material assembly formats calibration or standards required. i.e. honeycomb sandwich, monolithic carbon fibre construction, metal adhesive bonded parts, etc. Normally test specimens have to be manufactured for each item, but this unit eliminates this task entirely. Therefore enormous savings in cost: energy and special skills required to manufacture the traditional calibration specimens can be achieved.

This equipment enhances the application of electronics and advanced mechanical engineering, producing a product which is easy to use, saves specimen storage space and solves many problems associated with the specimen manufacture. Very little skill is required to operate the TPS, but as with all NDT, results have to be interpreted, however as there is a numerical relationship with material properties, this is made much easier.
