The Moisture Monitor M49 range offers a new concept in moisture measurement featuring: no prongs, probes or electric contacts, clear digital readout with direct reading (no charts or tables), pocket size, one handed operation and a deeply penetrating electric field.
The M49 and M49P (with probe) are hand held units that measure the dielectric constant of the material under test. As the dielectric constant of water is many times higher than many materials which normally contain it, the measurement is a certain indication that true moisture is present.
Both units rely on a high frequency electric field, which penetrates the material being investigated and measures the average amount of water within its field. Previous instruments using this technique were too large and bulky to be carried about easily.

nb.- These units cannot be used on metalic or carbon structures as these materials have high dielectric constants.
