m50_docJRTL are pleased to advise the development of a new universal moisture meter is progressing well.

This non invasive, universal probe allows the user to measure moisture either as a hand held unit or as part of a process control system input to PLC.  It is small, rugged & light to ensure ease of use.  Being fully sealed & designed to meet the IP67 water & dust proof rating it offers accuracy & reliability even in the most aggressive of environments.

It will operate on any non-metallic / carbon rich material, including: composite laminate/sandwich (polyester, epoxy, vinyl ester, phenolic resins), timber, carpet, concrete, brick, etc, measuring the dielectric constant of the material under test.

The unit can be set for use on specific materials by entering the product density to give an accurate percentage value, or as a comparator measuring the variation in moisture content over a component showing dry and damp spots.  It operates effectively on both flat or curved surfaces.

Currently output is to a PC via a USB digital connection or PLC via analogue voltage generator.  This makes it ideal for data capture & industrial applications.  We will shortly be producing a small, self contained hand held portable indicator/recorder.

Specification for M50-P Probe as follows:

  • Probe Ø OD : 57mm
  • Sensor Ø : 28 mm
  • Field depth penetration : up to 40mm (readings relate to inverse square rule)
  • Range : 0 to 50%
  • Power consumption : nominal 10 milli Watts
  • Operational temperature range : -20 to +85 deg C (un-tested)
  • Weight : 150g for Al probe as demonstrated (option for SS)
  • Rugged : designed to conform to IP67 (dust & moisture resistant)
  • Communication interface : USB, cable = 1.8m long
  • Software operating systems: XP & Windows 7
  • Software displays : Moisture content in %, with facility to adjust - density value, resolution / data collection speed, zero compensation

Field trials are currently taking place.  If moisture meters are of interest please contact us and we will advise you directly on how things are progressing.

Following JRTL’s recent partnership agreement with the French Company ISOJET Equipments we are pleased to announce the successful commissioning of two new RTM machines.aircelle_iso_425x249

The customers :

  • GE Aviation (Hamble)
  • Aircelle (UK) Limited

thanked JRTL who are pleased to have been able to provide this service promptly and efficiently enabling both GE Aviation (Hamble) and Aircelle to commence using their machines.

They have performed as expected and the first trial mouldings have been successful.

In particular Aircelle (part of the SAFRAN Group) thanked JRTL for their efforts and advised feedback has been positive.  Will Featherstone (Aircelle Senior Buyer) said:

"All at Aircelle Ltd have been extremely satisfied with the service provided by JR Technologies and ISOJET Equipment during the commissioning of this RTM machine.  The installation of the machine will result in significant efficiency savings, and represents a real improvement to our assembly line."

This remarkably small unit (86 x 146 x 47mm) is a low cost method of controlling power supplied to electrical devices rated up to 3 KW.  By simple manual adjustment the output can be regulated between 0 and 100%.  It has an integral RFI filter to ensure compliance with CE EMC requirements and a 25 Amp high surge triac is used to reduce electrical stress and increase reliability.  A single controller can be used to regulate three 1KW, two 1.5KW or one 3KW heater.jrth_lvr1_400x249

JRTL's customers are finding the type JRTH-LVR1 controller ideal for regulating the electrical output supply to infra red (IR) heater lamps and heater blankets for composite applications.

It ensures temperature variation is kept to an acceptable level and importantly costs are reduced as power is regulated to that needed rather than running equipment flat out consuming excess power.

04/03/2011 : we have just built a batch of Rheostat Controllers rated for 115 Volt applications.  They have a maximum output of 1500 Watts & are for use with burst firing (heater mats) only.  However, we could incorporate electronic switching for short wave infra red heater lamps if required.

Following numerous comments from customers over the difficulty in cutting Carbon and Aramid fabrics and prepreg, JRTL took it upon themselves to investigate and carry out a survey into the problem of sourcing suitable cutters and scissors.

The result: we are pleased to advise we have sourced a range of composite shears produced in England.  The range offered is very effective and long lasting when used for cutting these advanced materials.

The shears are high quality and constructed from high carbon tool steel. The handles are offset for ease of use and have a machined pivot screw to hold the blades securely in the correct plane. The shears have a unique grinding setting for effective cutting of composite materials and a Xylan low friction coating for protection.  As from this week all shears can be laser etched with model mark, serial number, etc.

In conjunction with the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre, University of Sheffield and working with companies like Boeing, William Whitely are currently developing a range of tools specifically for processes and materials used in the aerospace industry.

JRTL are very pleased to have been able to find these shears and add them to their product range.

ISOJET Equipements are a market leader for resin injection, dispensing, metering and recording equipment.  Their units are used extensively in the reinforced plastics and composites industries - most customers are within the Aerospace sector.  A number of Universities & Research Establishments have also selected ISOJET Equipements units for their research and development work due to the versatility of the units.

JRTL are very pleased to have formed this partnership as the ISOJET machines are of superior quality with a long respected history of use and the machines ideally compliment the JRTL product range.

Due to the success of the 2010 exhibition JRTL have already reserved a place for the 2011 event and have booked Stand 948 which will again be shared with ISOJET. The 2011 exhibition will be held at the NEC and will take place  between 9th to 10th November 2011.  It will be larger than the 2010 show as it has been extended to include “Energy Engineering” specialising in Wind Energy.  We hope to see you there.
